The thousands living on death row became the first group of "miners" sent out to the asteroid field (View Galactic Map). Criminals from every nation receiving a sentence greater than ten years were sent to mine ore from the asteroid field. The plan to establish a mining colonly in deep space was taken from the British mission to colonize Australia during the 1700s.
First Fleet, as it was known, took its name from those British mariners of old. Many of the men and women who set off to the unknowns of space, became the first Whale Riders to swim amongst the stars and stones of the asteroid field.
Geneticists on Earth found a way to modify actual blue whales for service in outer space. The whales act as tugboats, swimming through the sea of meteors and asteroids, pulling and pushing space rocks around the galaxy for mining. The depths and icy pressure blue whales can reach in Earth’s oceans are like those conditions in outer space…with a few exceptions.
